Groovy Hits Masterclass

WE'RE GETTIN' GROOVY with our 1st-5th graders! This masterclass will explore fun songs and scenes from musicals like Hairspray, Bye Bye Birdie, Sister Act, and Catch Me If You Can.  We will assign songs and scenes to different groups of students in the class.  They will spend the semester working on their assigned songs and scenes (this could be as a full class or in smaller groups). By the end of the masterclass, they will have received personalized direction from the directors, encouragement from their classmates, and ample time to hone their skills and work on their craft.  On Tuesday, October 28th, they will perform all their pieces in a free showcase for family and friends. This masterclass is open to 1st-5th grade students and is the perfect prerequisite for jumping into a full-scale production.  With a few masterclasses under their belt, younger students will be primed and ready to receive more prominent roles in a show.  If you have 2nd and 3rd graders interested in auditioning for a production, they must first take a masterclass.  In a production with such a large cast, your 2nd and 3rd graders should not expect to receive a speaking part. Anything is possible, but this expectation will likely set them up for disappointment as they will be the youngest and least experienced.  While being cast in the ensemble is an essential growth opportunity and will be SO much fun, we know it can also be heartbreaking for younger students hoping for more. Students who choose to participate in masterclass instead of a production will be called more often, get more time center stage, and have a 100% chance of getting lines.

Tech Rehearsal and the Showcase are mandatory for students (October 25th from 9am-12pm and Pctober 28th during regular class time).
